Zhu Bird
The legend goes that the Zhuo Bird is the transformed form of Dan Zhu, the son of Emperor Yao. Emperor Yao abdicated the throne in favor of Emperor Shun, leading Dan Zhu to ally with the people of the Three Miao Tribe and rebel against Yao. Emperor Yao sent troops to defeat them. Ashamed, Dan Zhu drowned himself in the South Sea and was transformed into the Zhuo Bird. It is said that hearing the cry of the Zhuo Bird is ominous because wherever it appears, talented and capable people will be exiled.
According to the legend, the descendants of Dan Zhu established a nation in the South Sea called the State of Dan Zhu. The inhabitants of this place are described as having peculiar appearances, with human faces and bird wings.
《Classic of Mountains and Seas》
In the second book of the Southern Section, it is mentioned: “At Gui Mountain, there is a bird resembling an owl but with human hands. Its cry sounds like the word 'bi.' This bird is called the Zhuo Bird. Its cry is considered a bad omen, and when it is seen, many capable people in that region are exiled.”
