Origins, Traits, and Protective Measures

Mythical Spirits and Their Origins

Mythical DEMON spirits originate from the negative essence found in people's souls. These entities, known as gui, share certain similarities with Western GHOSTS and are destined to wander or haunt the EARTH.

Varied Perceptions and Traits of Gui

While gui were generally feared and believed to have the potential for significant harm, not all of them were inherently evil. Some gui exhibited a more benevolent nature and could even offer assistance when needed.

Barriers to Rebirth and Reincarnation

According to various accounts, a gui represented a soul unable to undergo REBIRTH AND REINCARNATION, particularly if the individual had drowned or committed suicide. Gui who drowned had the chance to reenter the cycle of life by causing someone else's drowning, serving as a substitute.

Exclusion from the Cycle and Violent Deaths

Contrary to drowned souls, those who committed suicide were seemingly barred from rejoining the cycle of life. Souls of individuals who met violent deaths could also transform into gui, seeking release by finding a replacement to take their place.

Unique Gui and Protective Measures

One distinctive type of gui, known as the TOUZIGUEI, had the peculiar trait of stealing babies from cribs. Protective measures against gui included using nets or the smoke generated from burned sandals. Additionally, gui could be repelled by men shen, or DOOR GODS, and an array of protective CHARMS.

Gui's Alleged Vengeful Behavior and Peculiar Traits

Legend had it that gui sought revenge on those who mistreated them during their earthly existence. Believers also held that gui wore clothes devoid of hems and cast no shadows, adding to their mystical and eerie nature.
